Reflecting on 2016

“There are years that ask questions and years that answer.”

Zora Neale Hurston.

This quote really resonated with me as 2016 comes to a close. For me this year has asked a lot and I have needed to step up to find the answers. It has been a year of challenges, opportunities, highs and lows, goals met and disappointments and lovely surprises, and some experiences I could have done without.

If you’ve read been reading my blogs for a while you will notice a theme of reflecting. I believe my biggest learning opportunities come from reflecting on my experiences. It is so important to me that I have build my supervision practice around helping others to reflect.

What type of year have you had? Now at this time of the year you are probably far to busy to spent too much time reflecting, but when the Christmas chaos is over and some quiet, contemplative moments appear here are some prompts to help you.

Finish these statements….

My favourite thing I did this year was……

I am so glad I tried ……

If I hadn’t done ……… I wouldn’t have learned ……………….

I’m so pleased I met ……….

It was awful when …………..

I was surprised by ……………

I don’t know how I got through …………..

My biggest achievement was …………..

I’ll be happy if I never have to go through …………. again.

I am grateful for ……………………

Wishing you a safe, peaceful and joyful Christmas and holiday season,
